From 1 August 2022, amendments to the Labour Code (LC) and the Social Insurance Code (SIC) will come into force, introducing the right to leave and a cash benefit for fathers/adoptive parents of children up to 8 years of age. This was announced by the National Social Security Institute.

Entitlement to leave and allowance for fathers/adoptive parents of children up to 8 years of age is for a period of 2 months. The condition is that they have not taken the leave for childbirth (after the child is 6 months old), for raising a child up to the age of 2 and for adopting a child up to the age of 5, to which they are entitled with the mother’s consent, as well as for the mother’s death or serious illness.

Where the father/adoptive parent has taken some of these leaves for less than 2 months, he is entitled to leave for the difference between the 2 months and the leave taken.
