All children, not eligible to hereditary pension will be able to receive another type of monthly support

A new type of family monthly support will be provided to all children, not eligible to hereditary pension for a deceased parent. The above is foreseen in the amendments of the Family Assistance for Children Act that were approved at second reading by the parliament. The draft bill was prepared by the Ministry of Labour and Social Policy and was approved by the Council of Ministers on 1 August.

The new support will be provided from 2019 and will be allocated without considering the income criteria. The expectations are that the new mechanism will provide support for about 8,000 children.  The amount of the support will be determined on an annual base by the State Budget Act. The support will be allocated for a period of 12 months and will be received with the other types of family supports, but will not be eligible for allocation together with personal pension of a child, allocated as per the Social Insurance Code.

The new monthly family support will be paid to the other parent or guardian/custodian who is taking care of the child. The support will be allocated until the child reaches an age of 18 years and if the child is visiting school, until secondary school graduation, but not after the child reaches an age of 20 years. If the child has finished his/her secondary education, before getting at age of 18 years, the support will be provided until that age is reached. There is also an opportunity for the new support to be received by the families of relatives and/or next of kin, where the child is located, when the family is not receiving monthly support for its care as per the Children Protection Act.
